Canoe routes from our jetty

Every route starts and ends at our jetty in Ed — no transport needed. Stora Le is one of Sweden's clearest and longest lakes, stretching seventy kilometres north across the Norwegian border. These are the trips we recommend most often at the reception.

Island day trip south of Ed

The one-day classic: paddle out from the jetty and aim for the islands south of Ed. Smooth rocks for a coffee break, shallow bays for a swim, and always a lee side when the wind picks up.

Pack a lunch, rent a barrel for your phone, and make a relaxed loop at your own pace. Expect 10–14 kilometres if you round the outer islands.

Family bay paddle

With kids in the canoe you stop often rather than paddle far. The bays nearest the camp are sheltered from wind, sandy-bottomed in places, and full of spots to land.

Two to three hours is plenty. Children's life vests come in all sizes and are always included.

Weekend with wild camping

Paddle north along the eastern shore on Saturday, camp on one of the maintained DANO campsites or — within the rules of allemansrätten — on a headland of your own discovery, and take the western shore home on Sunday.

Add a tent, cook set and barrels to the rental and the whole weekend fits in one canoe. Don't forget the nature conservation card if you use the maintained campsites — we sell it at the reception.

North and back — 3–4 days

Stora Le narrows north of Ed and grows wilder by the hour. Three to four days is enough to reach the tighter passages and return, with nights on rock slabs and islands.

The lake is long and narrow so navigation is easy, but wind can build real waves — plan for morning paddling and hug the shore when it blows. Ask us for the wind forecast before you set off.

Going further?

Stora Le continues into Norway, and via the locks of the Dalsland Canal you can reach the whole lake system to the east. Week-long tours are entirely possible from our jetty — come into the reception and we'll draw on the map together, or check our sister site Kanuking for a ready-made all-inclusive package.
